Informations
Mineral waste is solid, inorganic materials that are mainly produced in the construction industry. These include concrete, bricks, tiles, natural stones, ceramics and road debris (asphalt). This waste is often generated during demolition work, renovations or road construction. They are characterized by the fact that they are non-flammable and are mainly composed of mineral substances.
A major environmental problem arises when mineral waste is disposed of improperly. If they get into nature, they can disfigure the landscape, and pollutants that may be present in certain building materials, such as heavy metals in old tiles or toxic substances in treated stones, can leach into the soil and groundwater.
Instructions for the disposal
Mineral waste generally does not fall under the dangerous goods classes, as it usually consists of harmless, natural materials. However, there are exceptions: if asbestos is contained in mineral waste, it is considered hazardous waste and must be disposed of separately, as asbestos dust can have serious health consequences. Therefore, the disposal of materials containing asbestos should only be carried out by professionals. Mineral waste can also be contaminated with pollutants such as tar, heavy metals or other chemicals. In such cases, they also fall under the dangerous goods classes, must be labelled accordingly and disposed of by certified waste disposal companies. It is important to observe these exceptions in order to protect the environment and health.
